The Handy (Free) Snipping Tool

The Handy (Free) Snipping Tool

A lot of you have have commented and it seems often wondered how we on earth we easily send across screenshots of areas on a screen and how quick we have been able to do it.  Well, to those of you who haven’t heard of this tool it’s called the Snipping Tool.  Best of all, it’s Free!

Snipping tool comes pre-installed on Windows 7 and Windows 10 PCs.  Snipping Tool is a very versatile and handy little tool.  You can use it to quickly capture a part of the page be it for a feature request or bug report, news stories, recipes – anything on your screen!  Sometimes the easiest way to make a copy of something is to take a snapshot of your screen—this is what Snipping Tool does.

Capture all or part of your PC screen, add notes, save the snip, or email it from the Snipping Tool window. You can capture any of the following types of snips:

  • Free-form snip. Draw a free-form shape around an object.
  • Rectangular snip. Drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.
  • Window snip. Select a window, such as a browser window or dialog box, that you want to capture.
  • Full-screen snip. Capture the entire screen.

How to Open Snipping Tool

To open Snipping Tool, simply press the start menu and search for snipping tool.  You can then add it to your start menu or toolbar so it’s quick to find.

After you capture a snip, it’s automatically copied to the Snipping Tool window. From there you can annotate, save, or share the snip.  Once you have it saved you can then paste it into a document, chat window, attach to an email, however you want to send it.

Snipping Tool saves us hours a week.  It’s much quicker than pressing the ‘PrtScr’ (Print Screen) button and then pasting the image and cropping it so it’s easy to send.  You can use the snipping tool for quickly compressing driver, passenger and vehicle images which you can then upload into Road XS.  We hope this helps you whenever you need to capture a screenshot.
