On the morning of Tuesday 20 October 2026, Google Cloud experienced a significant outage affecting its London region.
Road XS is hosted on Google Cloud, so some of our users may have had difficulty accessing the platform during this period.
We are pleased to confirm that Road XS services are now back online and running normally as of 1:32pm and officially from 14:04pm.
Key Takeaways
- Google Cloud’s London region suffered an outage from just after 7am UK time on 20 October 2026.
- Google has attributed the outage to a power event in one zone and confirmed it has been mitigated. A full root cause is still to be published.
- Banks, delivery firms, retailers, the NHS and the courts service were among those affected.
- Road XS services have been restored and are operating normally.
- Subscribe to status.roadxs.com to receive live updates whenever service is affected.
What happened
According to Google’s Cloud Status page, problems began just after 7am UK time, when multiple services in its London region started returning errors and intermittent network failures.
Google attributed the outage to a “power event” affecting one zone within that region. It later confirmed the power event had been mitigated and that services were recovering for most customers.
What we know about the cause
At the time of writing, Google has not published a full root cause. Following major incidents, Google normally releases a detailed incident report, and we will review it carefully once it is available.
Until then, we are relying only on what Google has confirmed publicly rather than speculating about what lay behind the power event.
A much wider impact than Road XS
The scale of the disruption shows how much of the UK now runs on cloud infrastructure.
Reuters, Bloomberg and The Register reported impacts on:
- Revolut,
- Lloyds,
- Halifax and HSBC,
- Royal Mail and DPD,
- retailers including Asda and Screwfix,
- Rightmove,
- NHS England,
- and the video platform HM Courts and Tribunals Service uses for remote hearings.
Why we use Google Cloud
These organisations build on the same infrastructure for good reason. Major cloud providers offer levels of security, monitoring and resilience that very few businesses could achieve alone, including backup power and multiple separate zones within each region.
Road XS (OJE Technology) chose Google Cloud for exactly those reasons, and incidents like this one remain genuinely rare.
Our commitment to you
No Road XS data was lost or compromised. As a cloud service, Road XS depends on the infrastructure beneath it, and no provider can promise zero downtime.
What we can promise is that we monitor our platform closely, follow our provider’s updates as they happen, and act quickly to keep your scheme running.
Stay informed with the Road XS status page
