2026 marks a pivotal year for Road XS with the introduction of Vanguard, a reimagined transport operating system built for an increasingly complex and interconnected landscape. Designed to support everything from volunteer fleets to demand-responsive services, Vanguard promises smarter automation, improved reporting, and a more intuitive experience, all delivered without disruption to existing workflows across UK transport providers.

There’s a feeling at the start of 2026 that something important is shifting in UK transport.

Communities are changing. Travel patterns are evolving. Expectations around reliability, accessibility, sustainability and data are higher than ever. And for everyone involved in moving people, from community transport operators to commercial fleets, councils and charities, the pressure to do more with less has never really gone away.

At Road XS, we see this not as a problem, but as an opportunity.

That’s why 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most significant years in our journey so far.

Over the past decade, Road XS has grown from a simple scheduling platform into a fully-fledged transport operating system, quietly powering journeys across the UK every day.

Since our very first cloud update in September 2016, we’ve followed a simple philosophy: keep improving, keep listening, and keep removing friction from the work of moving people safely and efficiently.

This year, that philosophy is taking a bold step forward.

A New Platform and Framework, Built for a New Era

Later in 2026, we’ll be introducing a brand-new Road XS platform, currently known by its working title: Vanguard.

Vanguard isn’t about replacing what already works. It’s about evolving what we do. Behind the scenes, we’ve been re-engineering the foundations of Road XS so it can support a much wider, more demanding and more interconnected transport landscape, from advanced demand-responsive services and volunteer fleets to commercial operators, integrated networks and beyond.

Some of this work is deeply technical. Some of it is about design, speed and usability. Some of it is about security, resilience and scale. But all of it has the same goal: to give transport providers better tools so they can focus on people, not paperwork.

Rather than one big disruptive switch-over, this transformation is being delivered through a carefully managed programme, with everything fully supported at every stage. That means no downtime, no broken workflows, and no sudden changes that leave teams scrambling. It’s evolution, not upheaval.

In the coming months, we'll start opening up more about what's coming, and you’ll start to see glimpses of what’s coming.  New workflows, smarter automation, more powerful reporting, and a cleaner, more intuitive experience across the platform. We’ll share details as each part is ready, but for now, consider this your early preview that something big is on the way.

Why this Matters Now

The UK faces some enormous transport challenges.

An ageing population. Rising social isolation. Pressure on public services. Congestion, emissions and tightening budgets. At the same time, technology is moving faster than ever, and expectations from passengers, funders and regulators are rising with it.

We believe the answer isn’t just more vehicles or more routes. It’s a better system.

Systems that connect drivers, passengers, operators and data in real time. Systems that reduce wasted mileage, improve reliability, and make services easier to run. Systems that help organisations prove their impact, secure funding, and plan for the future with confidence.

That’s what our Vanguard is being built to support, not for now, but also the coming years ahead, so you have the very best.

Here’s to a Great Year Ahead

2026 isn’t just shaping up to be a big year for Road XS; it’s a big year for everyone working to keep people moving.

Whether you’re running a volunteer car scheme, managing a demand-responsive fleet, supporting vulnerable passengers, or planning the future of local transport, you’re part of something that matters. Every journey delivered well is a small win for independence, opportunity and community.

We’re proud to be building the leading software that helps make that possible.

So here’s to a year of progress, collaboration and momentum. We look forward to sharing more about what’s coming and to continuing this journey together.
